About the Program
Proteomics is the scientific study of proteins, particularly their structures and functions. Vermillion, harvests the discoveries of leading medical research institutions to develop and commercialize novel high-value diagnostic tests to better diagnose, monitor and treat diseases. The company has programs in oncology, hematology, cardiology and women's health. Its first test, OVA1®, is the first FDA-cleared blood test for pre-surgical cancer diagnosis of ovarian tumors. In recent clinical trials, OVA1 correctly identified 70% of cancers missed by current methods.
Vermillion was founded in 1997 in Fremont, California as Abiotic Systems (but changed its name in 2007). The company relocated to Austin in September 2010 "to take advantage of Austin's strong talent pool and cost-effective environment."
Ms. Page, Vermillion's CEO, joined Vermillion in 2004. During her tenure she has successfully raised over $110 million in funding. Prior to Vermillion, Ms. Page was Executive VP and COO of Luminex. She has held senior level management positions with Laboratory Corporation of America, the second leading diagnostics testing company in the U.S., in such assignments as Senior VP, Office of Science and Technology, head the Cytology and Pathology Services, and chair of the company's Scientific Advisory Board. Ms. Page has Medical Technology and Associates Science degrees from the University of Florida. She has completed an Executive Management course at Northwestern's Kellogg School.
